DevOps Engineer – Modernisation, AI, Self-Hosted Infrastructure – Heidelberg – €80,000

Overview

A long-established software company in Heidelberg is continuing to modernise its technology landscape and is looking for a DevOps Engineer to support this next phase.

For over 40 years, the company has been building and operating stable, business-critical software used by customers in retail, wholesale, and distribution. Today, the focus is on modernising existing systems and introducing new architectures , while keeping a reliable platform running day to day.

This role is well suited to someone with a solid technical foundation who wants to grow further into infrastructure and DevOps responsibility over time.

Responsibilities

• Support and gradually take responsibility for DevOps and infrastructure topics
• Work with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes (GitLab, containers)
• Help operate and maintain self-hosted systems, virtual machines, and bare-metal infrastructure
• Contribute to monitoring, stability, and operational improvements
• Support modernisation initiatives, including new architectures and AI / LLM-related workloads

You won’t be expected to be a DevOps “guru” from day one - there is time and support to grow into the role.

About You

• Solid general technical background (DevOps, backend, systems, or similar)
• Comfortable with Linux and basic infrastructure concepts
• Working knowledge / ability to read and understand Java
• Some experience or interest in containers, CI/CD, or deployment topics

English is sufficient - German is not required.

You don’t need to tick every box on day one.

What matters most is a good technical foundation, curiosity, and the motivation to learn.
