Mit dem Deutschen Zentrum für Astrophysik (DZA) entsteht ein neues Forschungszentrum in der Lausitz. Ziel ist es, die deutsche Astrophysik strategisch zu stärken, wissenschaftliche Exzellenz zu fördern und gleichzeitig einen aktiven Beitrag zum Strukturwandel in der Region zu leisten. Als wissenschaftliche Einrichtung mit Modellcharakter für Innovation wird das DZA neue Möglichkeiten für strategische Führungsrollen der deutschen Astrophysik schaffen und den Strukturwandel in der Lausitz nachhaltig prägen.

Im Rahmen des Aufbaus des DZA ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt folgende Position:

DevOps Service Engineer (w/m/d) für die DZA-IT-Infrastruktur

(bei Vorliegen der persönlichen Voraussetzungen bis Entgeltgruppe E 12 TVöD Bund; zusätzlich kann eine IT-Fachkräftezulage gemäß den tariflichen Bestimmungen gewährt werden)

unbefristet zu besetzen.

TÄTIGKEITSPROFIL:

Für den Aufbau und die Weiterentwicklung der IT-Infrastruktur des Deutschen Zentrums für Astrophysik (DZA) in Görlitz suchen wir einen erfahrenen DevOps Service Engineer.

Unterstützt durch das High-Performance-Computing (HPC)-Umfeld der TU Dresden arbeiten Sie in einem neu entstehenden Operations-Team, das für den zuverlässigen Betrieb, die Automatisierung und die Verfügbarkeit der Systeme verantwortlich ist. In der aktuellen Aufbauphase haben Sie großen Gestaltungsspielraum, um eine skalierbare, moderne und nachhaltige IT-Infrastruktur mitzugestalten.

IHRE AUFGABEN:

• Betrieb, Überwachung und Optimierung von Cloud- und On-Premise-Services innerhalb der DZA-IT-Infrastruktur
• Einrichtung, Automatisierung und Dokumentation von System- und Serviceprozessen (z. B. via CI/CD, GitOps, Shell-Scripting, cron-jobs)
• Implementierung und Pflege von Monitoring- und Logging-Systemen (z. B. Prometheus, Grafana)
• Analyse und Auswertung von Logs, Metriken und Traces zur Sicherstellung von Stabilität und Performance
• Unterstützung bei der Integration neuer Softwarekomponenten und Dienste in den produktiven Betrieb
• Sicherstellung von IT-Security, Verfügbarkeit und Compliance in einer wachsenden Forschungsinfrastruktur
• Zusammenarbeit mit internen Fachbereichen, der TU Dresden (HPC-Umgebung) und externen Projektpartnern

VORAUSSETZUNGEN:

• Abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium im Bereich Informatik oder einem verwandten naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Fachgebiet
• Mehrjährige Erfahrung im Betrieb, der Automatisierung und Optimierung komplexer IT-Infrastrukturen
• Fundierte Kenntnisse in Unix/Linux-Systemen, Shell-Scripting, Prozessautomatisierung (cron-jobs)
• Erfahrung mit CI/CD-Pipelines und GitOps-Methoden
• Gutes Verständnis von Softwareentwicklung und deren Anforderungen an den Betrieb
• Vertrautheit mit Incident-Management-Prozessen (nach ITIL oder vergleichbar)
• Erfahrung mit Monitoring- und Logging-Tools (z. B. Prometheus, Grafana) und gezielte Auswertung von Logs, Metriken und Traces
• Grundlegendes Verständnis von Netzwerkprotokollen (HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS)
• Erfahrung im High-Performance-Computing (PC), insbesondere mit verteilten Dateisystemen (z. B. CephFS, Lustre) oder Job-Scheduling-Systemen (z. B. Slurm) wünschenswert
• Begeisterung für Radioastronomie und die Verarbeitung extrem großer Datenmengen („Exabytes and beyond“)
• Proaktive, lösungsorientierte Arbeitsweise
• Gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift

The position is to be filled on a permanent basis.

JOB PROFILE:

For the development and further expansion of the IT infrastructure at the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) in Görlitz, we are looking for an experienced DevOps Service Engineer.

Supported by the High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment at TU Dresden, you will work in a newly forming operations team responsible for the reliable operation, automation, and availability of systems. In the current setup phase, you will have significant freedom to shape a scalable, modern, and sustainable IT infrastructure.

YOUR TASKS:

• Operate, monitor, and optimize cloud and on-premise services within the DZA IT infrastructure
• Set up, automate, and document system and service processes (e.g., via CI/CD, GitOps, shell scripting, cron jobs)
• Implement and maintain monitoring and logging systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
• Analyze logs, metrics, and traces to ensure stability and performance
• Support the integration of new software components and services into production
• Ensure IT security, availability, and compliance in a growing research infrastructure
• Collaborate with internal departments, TU Dresden (HPC environment), and external project partners

REQUIREMENTS:

• University degree in computer science or a related scientific/technical field
• Several years of experience in operating, automating, and optimizing complex IT infrastructures
• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux systems, shell scripting, and process automation (cron jobs)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps methods
• Good understanding of software development and its operational requirements
• Familiarity with incident management processes (ITIL or equivalent)
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and the analysis of logs, metrics, and traces
• Basic understanding of network protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS)
• Experience with high-performance computing (HPC), including distributed file systems (e.g., CephFS, Lustre) or job scheduling systems (e.g., Slurm)
• Enthusiasm for radio astronomy and handling extremely large data volumes (“Exabytes and beyond”)
• Proactive, solution-oriented working style
• Good written and spoken English and German skills
