About the Role
The Director – Global Business Development Germany will be responsible for acquiring new‑to‑franchise T&E and supplier payment business across our large and most strategic customers in Germany and other key EMEA markets.
Responsibilities
- Acquire new customers into the commercial payments business at American Express.
- Drive new sales from prospective clients with global annual revenue of €10B and headquarters based in Germany and other EMEA countries.
- Build winning contact strategies in the market, industry, and prospect level to ensure proper support and C‑level relationship endorsement.
- Lead strategic selling aligned with compliance and internal partner business requirements.
- Build winning strategies, develop and execute a growth strategy, adapting plans and priorities to address resource and operational requirements.
- Achieve sales growth targets (charge volume and booked charge volume).
- Sell core and supplier payments solutions, ensuring set‑up and card issuing and managing expansion signings.
- Make decisions and resolve issues based on policies, procedures and business plans.
- Partner with peers and senior leaders across the GCS organization to drive engagement, retention, and long‑term profitability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Deep knowledge and experience selling in the corporate payments industry, including T&E and supplier payments solutions in Germany and globally.
- Hunter mentality with proven track record in sales negotiations, leadership, and closing skills in the travel industry environment.
- 10 years of business development experience in a sales environment with a proven track record of driving results.
- Networked in the payments industry across multiple industry groups including travel and procurement, especially in Germany.
- Thorough knowledge of consultative selling techniques within Procurement, Treasury and Finance.
- Extensive experience with complex sales planning and execution.
- Strong financial acumen.
- Exceptional presentation and negotiation skills, with ability to influence at the senior level.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Bachelor's Degree required; MBA preferred.
- English and German speakers mandatory.
- Employment eligibility to work in Germany required; no visa sponsorship.
