What you’ll do

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join the Practice Operations team in Engineering.

As a Director of Engineering, your mission will be to lead the transformation of how healthcare professionals manage daily operations—empowering teams that deliver benefits like user management, document handling, patient check‑in, and doctor task management, directly improving the lives of 420 000 professionals and 90 million patients across Europe.

Your key missions & expected impact

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Lead and manage 3 Engineering Teams based in Berlin, owning key scopes such as user management, document handling, check‑in processes, patient admission, doctor task management; champion organizational excellence by improving efficiency, removing blockers and accelerating delivery across the teams.
• Define and execute the “North Star” technical strategy with the product team—making bold decisions that balance ambitious innovation with pragmatic delivery. Drive the modernization from a Ruby on Rails monolith to a multi‑service architecture while maintaining zero downtime and operational excellence.
• Drive transformational change across the Practice Operations domain—taking end‑to‑end ownership of large‑scale programs that reshape how systems are built and run, ensuring cross‑team collaboration across streams and domains.

Who you are

• Proven engineering leadership experience : At least 12 years managing engineers in fast‑paced, high‑growth, international environments.
• Strategic technology visionary : Deep understanding of company goals, industry landscape, and tech trends, with a record of building technology roadmaps that steer business success and influence product strategy.
• Mastery of leadership styles : Deploy different approaches by context, balancing hands‑on versus hands‑off, coaching vs. directing, empowering teams with guardrails.
• Domain expertise builder : Create strategic visions for industry domains and nurture deep domain knowledge, guiding teams through user workflows and product purpose.
• Execution‑focused : Own critical programs across multiple teams, delivering complex projects on time, maintaining quality standards.
• People development champion : Mentor managers, launch development initiatives, and use data‑driven insights to sharpen people practices.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Healthcare or regulated‑industry experience : Navigated the complexities of building tech in regulated spaces.
• Experience with AI‑augmented developer tools, data mesh, or open‑source contributions.
• M&A or post‑acquisition integration experience .
