Ludwig‑Maximilians‑Universität München is a leading research university in Europe.
The Chair of Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at LMU is part of the Mathematical Institute within the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Statistics and contributes to the Bavarian Hightech Agenda. Our research focuses on reliable AI, including questions of expressivity, generalization, and explainability of (graph) neural networks, as well as sustainable AI – for example, spiking neural networks as an energy‑efficient alternative to classical neural networks. We also work on mathematically grounded AI methods for inverse problems, partial differential equations, and AI‑based approaches to learning physical laws. Applications arise, among others, in medicine, robotics, and telecommunications.
The chair is involved in several larger initiatives at LMU and in the Munich AI ecosystem, including AI‑ , the Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Reliable AI, the Munich Center for Machine Learning, and the project “Next Generation AI Computing (gAIn)”, partly in leading roles.
TV‑L (up to E13), depending on qualifications and professional experience.
The position can also be undertaken on a part‑time basis.
LMU Munich is committed to increasing the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female candidates to apply. People with disabilities who are equally as qualified as other applicants will receive preferential treatment.
