Expert Engineer - Systems & Safety (m/f/d)

Stellenbeschreibung:

Your Role

We are seeking an Expert Engineer - Systems & Safety to further strengthen and scale the safety, reliability, and quality foundations of our autonomous off-road software platform.

This is an expert-level, hands‑on engineering role with system-wide responsibility. You will work closely with the CTO and engineering teams to evolve our safety and quality practices, advance runtime monitoring and reliability mechanisms, and systematically prepare the organization for future audits and certifications.

Beyond technical ownership, this role carries a strong growth potential: as driveblocks continues to scale, you will play a key role in defining standards, establishing best practices, and building sustainable structures for safety and quality across the organization. Over time, this includes the opportunity to grow into a leadership role, onboarding and mentoring additional engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve and mature safety‑aligned development processes in preparation for future audit and certification requirements (e.g., ASPICE).
  • Strengthen traceability across requirements, code, tests, and quality KPIs.
  • Define and refine measurable safety and code quality metrics integrated into engineering workflows.
  • Advance automated testing strategies across unit, integration, and system levels to ensure robust validation.
  • Design and enhance runtime monitoring, fault detection, tracing, and logging mechanisms for on‑vehicle software.
  • Drive continuous reliability improvements through structured analysis of system behavior and failures.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions from a safety and system‑wide reliability perspective.
  • Collaborate with feature teams to embed safety, monitoring, and quality principles consistently across the platform.

Must‑Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in safety‑critical or reliability‑focused software systems, ideally in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or similar domains.
  • Strong background in modern C++ and system‑level software design.
  • Experience working within structured development processes (e.g., ASPICE, ISO 26262, or similar frameworks).
  • Practical experience applying software safety principles, such as fault‑tolerant design, runtime monitoring, or structured hazard analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with automated testing and measurable quality metrics.
  • Strong system‑level thinking and ability to reason across multiple components and interfaces.

Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications

  • Experience supporting safety audits or certification activities.
  • Familiarity with requirements management and traceability tools.
  • Experience designing monitoring or diagnostic systems in real‑time environments.
  • Understanding of CI/CD and automated validation environments.

About Us

driveblocks develops off‑road ground autonomy that works under harsh and challenging conditions. We build systems designed for operation in 3D terrain, vegetation, and heavy dust and dirt, where 100% reliability is core to success, even in GNSS‑denied environments.

Working with multiple OEM partners across agriculture, construction, and defense, our focus is to deliver value to vehicle operators and solve the toughest challenges when deploying Physical AI in real‑world applications. Every deployment helps us to gather the operational data required to build the next generation of reliable and safe autonomous driving systems.

From our office in Munich, we operate as a focused, highly ambitious team with deep expertise in autonomy, Physical AI, and embedded software engineering. We move quickly and set high standards. If you want to build autonomy that is deployed, tested, and operated in the field — we’d love to hear from you!
