Who We Are

The Topology Working Group at the Mathematical Institute of Freie Universität Berlin is embedded in Berlin's rich mathematical research landscape, which includes three universities (FU, HU, and TU) and two research institutes (WIAS and ZIB).

What You Can Expect In Your New Role

Collaboration in research:

• Research in algebraic topology / algebraic K-theory / higher algebra
• Performing own research tasks
• Publishing research results
• Presenting research findings in seminars
• Assistance with local events within the scope of the research area
• Participation in external academic events
• Establishing and maintaining scientific collaborations

Teaching:

• Participation in teaching mathematics.
• Planning and conducting courses for the academic field of work.
• Selecting and evaluating literature in preparation for courses.
• Instructing tutors.
• Advising students on presentations and term papers.
• Developing proposals for exam, term paper, and test topics.
• Grading exams, term papers, and exam papers, as well as supervising exams and serving as an exam assistant.
• (Co-)Supervising bachelor's and master's theses at the department.

The position serves to further your own academic qualifications, and there is the opportunity to pursue a "Habilitation".

Key Requirements

• Completed master's degree and completed doctorate in mathematics by September 2026.

Desirable

• Solid background in algebraic topology / K-theory / higher algebra.
• Gender and diversity knowledge.
