What To Expect

The Facilities Maintenance Operations Lead will play a critical role in building and leading Tesla Engineering Center (TEC)’s technical team while ensuring the seamless operation of complex facility systems. This position requires a cross‑functional leader who can "wear multiple hats," balancing technical expertise, team management, and strategic planning to drive efficiency, safety, and innovation. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in scaling TEC’s infrastructure capabilities, from conceptual design to day‑to‑day operations, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Hire, train, and mentor a high‑performing facilities operations team, focusing on core competencies in mechanical systems, automation, and maintenance
  • Oversee disciplinary and professional development, including performance reviews, training programs, and career growth planning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system failures, prioritizing safety and production impact
  • Lead end‑to‑end project management for new system installations, upgrades, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with budgets, timelines, and safety standards
  • Implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to maximize system reliability and reduce downtime
  • Act as a key liaison between Facilities, Engineering, and EHS teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate project updates, budget insights, and operational risks to senior management and cross‑functional stakeholders

What You’ll Bring

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Facilities Maintenance or a related field. Equivalent technical experience will be considered
  • Solid years of hands‑on experience in facility operations, with a focus on mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, chillers, compressed air, pumps). Highly Desirable Certifications: TÜV Zertifizierung, CFM, ISO, DIN EN
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including rotary equipment (pumps, compressors, fans) and energy distribution networks
  • Experience with data analysis, system monitoring tools, and maintenance management software
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion, including budgeting, vendor coordination, and stakeholder communication
  • Demonstrated leadership in building and scaling technical teams in dynamic, fast‑paced environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German
