QuantumDiamonds

Failure Analysis (Application Engineer) (f/m/d)

Stellenbeschreibung:

As an Application Engineer (Failure Analysis) , you will be the main operator of the quantum diamond microscopy tools developed at QuantumDiamonds. You will work hands‑on with a continuous stream of customer samples from major chip companies—either shipped to our lab or brought in during on‑site visits—to demonstrate the device’s capabilities in real‑world failure analysis scenarios.

Your day‑to‑day will include running measurements, preparing clear and professional customer reports, and contributing to application notes that showcase how our technology solves critical semiconductor challenges. As the primary user of the device, your operational feedback will help shape product improvements.

If you have a strong background in semiconductor testing and experience with techniques such as Photo‑Emission Microscopy, Lock‑in Thermography, OBIRCH, and SEM‑based methods (e.g., VC, EBAC, EBIRCH), we want to hear from you.

Description

The role involves operating and maintaining the quantum diamond microscopes to analyze customer‑provided semiconductors and perform live demos, ensuring meticulous sample handling, storage, and tracking to maintain measurement quality and reliability. You will also contribute to application notes showcasing device capabilities and provide structured, actionable product feedback based on day‑to‑day operations.

Who we are

Founded in 2022 as a spin‑off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three‑dimensional current maps within multilayer chips. Our 30‑strong team of physicists, engineers, and data scientists works closely with major semiconductor manufacturers, accelerating debugging and yield analysis. Backed by top‑tier deep‑tech investors and strategic public programs, we are shifting from breakthrough to scale and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.

Why join us?

  • A machine that catches what others miss – in milliseconds.
  • Physics, data, and engineering working hand‑in‑hand to build tools that matter.
  • An international team that loves solving hard problems and fosters fast knowledge flow.

Still unsure?

  • You’ll build a product that has never been done before alongside a brilliant, welcoming team.
  • Our technology is cutting edge today, not in 10 years.
  • You will work directly with major semiconductor companies from Day 1.
  • You’ll receive virtual shares and act on behalf of the entire company, beyond just your own team.
  • You’ll be part of a high‑growth company backed by top‑tier investors.

What will you do

  • Operate and maintain quantum diamond microscopes to analyze customer‑provided semiconductors and perform live demos.
  • Ensure meticulous sample handling, storage, and tracking to maintain measurement quality and reliability.
  • Contribute to application notes showcasing device capabilities and performance.
  • Ensure results are accurate, timely, and impactful.
  • Provide structured, actionable product feedback based on day‑to‑day operation of the system.

What is expected of you

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant hands‑on experience in the semiconductor testing industry (1‑2+ years), preferably operating laser‑based systems.
  • High achiever who thrives in a fast‑paced environment where things get done.
  • Collaborative, team‑oriented, and a problem‑solver passionate about making an impact.

Strong assets

  • Experience in using FA tools such as PEM, LIT, OBIRCH and SEM‑based techniques (VC, EBAC, EBIRCH).
  • Experience with laser optics.
  • Good understanding of semiconductor device failure modes in practice.
  • Sample preparation experience (de‑encapsulation, wire‑bonding, etc.) is a plus.

Our benefits

  • Mission: Join us in building products that make a lasting difference beyond business as usual.
  • Impact & growth: Shape our culture, influence key decisions, and grow alongside a fast‑scaling company.
  • Well‑being & balance: 30 vacation days plus public holidays for rest and recharge.
  • Health & fitness: Company‑sponsored Wellpass membership for full‑access to gyms, classes, and wellness offers across Germany.
  • Learning & development: Annual budget for courses, conferences, and other growth resources.
  • Ownership & participation: Equity program that lets you directly share in our success.
  • Team & culture: Regular off‑sites, team events, and a collaborative environment that values outside‑the‑office connections.
