Purpose and Duties

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall asset management and optimisation of their rolling stock fleet(s). This involves a blend of rolling stock technical and operational expertise, financial acumen, and strong relationship-building skills. The Fleet Manager ensures safety of the fleet(s), maximises availability, reliability, utilisation, and customer satisfaction.

• People management responsibility within their team
• Uphold the highest standards of safety and compliance for all fleet(s), with a deep understanding of the European railway safety and regulatory environment.
• Oversee the investigation and resolution of technical, safety, and quality issues affecting the fleet in a timely and efficient manner.
• Responsibility for delivery of maintenance and repair activities across the fleet(s), ensuring that work is carried out to the required standard and that all asset and maintenance management systems are updated and accurate.
• Develop and implement strategies with stakeholders to continuously improve the safety, reliability, lifecycle cost, and maintainability of the fleet(s) to maximise utilisation and maintain competitive advantage.
• Support the business in delivery of new build projects, and the modernisation and acquisition of existing rolling stock.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing technical enquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining strong relationships to understand their evolving needs and tailor asset solutions to meet their requirements.
• Support the business in negotiating lease agreements, renewals, and amendments to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes for Beacon and our customers.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, to identify and mitigate risks associated with asset ownership and align asset management strategies with business objectives.
• Manage the interface with external stakeholders, such as suppliers, assessment bodies, and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and best practice in operation, maintenance, and modification of the fleet(s).
• Act as the design authority for the fleet(s), ensuring all changes to the asset and technical file comply with safety regulations and engineering standards. Manage the Beacon asset and maintenance management systems and Engineering Change process for the allocated fleet(s).

What we are looking for

• Engineering degree, or a time-served engineering Apprenticeship
• Substantial knowledge of rail vehicles with emphasis on fleets in the Beacon portfolio
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Hand on people management experience
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a related role, such as maintenance or asset management
• Proven track record of success in managing and maintaining a fleet of assets
• Proven experience in fleet management, preferably in the rail transportation industry.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and market trends.
• Excellent people management, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Self‑starter that is willing to take the initiative, with strong communication skills to update the business on the status of varied and geographically diverse fleet(s).
• Willing to travel to serve a pan‑European portfolio and supply‑chain.
• Visit workshops, manufacturer factories and other suitable locations where assets, customers and suppliers are located.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements, leasing principles, and industry best practices.
