Flight Test Engineer (UAV) - Up to $85,000

Overview

An early‑stage deep‑tech company is seeking a Flight Test Engineer to help bring advanced autonomous aerial systems from prototype to real‑world operation. This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives on flying, testing and pushing UAV platforms to their limits while working closely with hardware and software engineers.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of robotics, autonomy and Spatial AI. You will play a key role in shaping how next‑generation UAV systems perform in demanding field conditions, with real ownership and visible impact in an early‑stage environment.

My client is a fast‑growing technology company developing intelligent robotic platforms that can perceive, reason about and act within physical space. The company is focused on building high‑performance autonomous systems, starting with UAVs, for deployment across advanced industrial and infrastructure‑related applications. The culture is engineering‑led, practical and field‑driven.

The role

As Flight Test Engineer, you will take ownership of integrating, flying, testing and refining autonomous UAV platforms. You will manage qualification and development flight testing end‑to‑end, from preparation and execution through to data analysis and documentation. The role also includes demonstrating systems to partners and supporting deployments at test sites across Europe.

The essential requirements

• Technical apprenticeship, degree or equivalent hands‑on technical training
• 3+ years’ experience assembling, tuning and operating drones (professional or serious enthusiast level)
• Strong experience with ground control software such as Mission Planner or QGroundControl
• Hands‑on knowledge of ArduPilot and/or PX4 flight stacks
• Solid electronics skills, including soldering and fault‑finding
• Ability to analyse flight logs and determine likely root causes of failures

What will make you stand out

• Command line usage and basic scripting
• Advanced flight data analysis and log interpretation
• Experience with environmental testing (vibration, EMI, thermal, MIL‑spec)
• Regulatory exposure such as EASA SORA
• Understanding of sensors, signal chains and test setups
• CAD and 3D printing experience
• Military training or familiarity with defence processes
• Up to $85,000 (DoE)
