Offer Description

The Cluster of Excellence TERRA TERRA “Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World” is an interdisciplinary research initiative of geoscientists, biologists, and computer scientists at the Universities of Tübingen and Hohenheim and the Senckenberg Institution of Biodiversity and Earth System Research in Frankfurt. It investigates how living and non-living world interactions shape global change from microorganisms to the globe, in the geological past, present, and future. TERRA starts on 1 January 2026 and is funded until 31 December 2032. We invite applications for the following position in coordination with the Department of Geosciences at the University of Tübingen.

Geoscientific Laboratory Researcher with Coordination Responsibilities (m/f/d; TV-L E 13, 100%)

Responsibilities

  • Head the Facility for Dating and Analysis of Rocks and Terrestrial Sediments (DARTS).
  • Consolidate analytical capabilities for sample preparation, age dating, and advanced analysis of samples in the Geo- and Environmental Research Center (GUZ) and coordinate with labs at Senckenberg.
  • Develop scientific strategies to solve research questions on geo-biosphere interactions based on geoscientific measurements.
  • Conduct research on geo-biosphere interactions using rocks and/or terrestrial sediments.
  • Process monitoring and data quality assurance from acquisition to final publication.
  • Oversee measurement performance and support data analysis including data management and storage.
  • Coordinate between analytical facilities at TERRA sites (Tübingen, Hohenheim, Senckenberg) and manage administrative aspects.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Geo- or Natural Sciences.
  • Experience in diverse analytical characterization methods of geomaterials.
  • Pro-active, well-organised work style; strong interaction and communication skills for interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • General interest in TERRA research topics; experience with rock and sediment dating methods is beneficial.
