Group Leader of the Data Intelligence Team (m/f/d)

Stellenbeschreibung:

We are looking for a dedicated and team-oriented group leader to head the Data Intelligence team as soon as possible, initially on a fixed-term contract until .

The e-conversion Cluster of Excellence is an internationally collaborative research project at one of Germany's largest technical universities, investigating fundamental energy conversion processes. Within this cluster, scientists from two universities and two Max Planck Institutes in the Munich area, Stuttgart, and Berlin work together in an interdisciplinary manner. The cluster has been funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) since January 1, 2019, as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

Our newly formed data intelligence team will coordinate, monitor, and actively support the development of a central data exchange platform, integrating the diverse data management solutions of individual research groups within the Cluster of Excellence. The planned platform will not only enable the reuse of research data both within and outside the cluster, but will also serve as the basis for accelerated research processes supported by artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence's digital transformation of scientific work.

Requirements

  • A successfully completed degree in chemistry, physics, computer science, or materials science, ideally with a doctorate;
  • Ideally, professional experience as a team or group leader in an industrial or academic setting;
  • Experience in planning and coordinating projects as well as in interdisciplinary collaboration;
  • Experience in the professional management of scientific data;
  • Experience with data infrastructures (software or hardware);
  • Interest in the field of research into fundamental energy conversion processes;
  • A high degree of initiative, independence, and resilience;
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills;
  • An independent work style, commitment, flexibility, and teamwork skills.

Area of Responsibility

  • Responsible coordination of the Data Intelligence Team's activities;
  • Planning, monitoring, and ensuring the team's objectives are met;
  • Development of cluster-wide strategies and guidelines for handling research data across all disciplines within the cluster and their implementation in the cluster's data infrastructure;
  • Training and advising researchers on the principles, methodology, and standards of research data management to promote the consistent application of the FAIR principles within the cluster, in accordance with the DFG's guidelines;
  • Close collaboration with national partners, focusing on metadata standards and FAIR‑compliant data workflows, as well as organizing and participating in conferences and workshops;
  • Connecting the Cluster of Excellence's activities with national and international projects and initiatives, and representing the project in relevant professional formats.
