Guerlain (Japan) is looking for a Social Media Manager in Tokyo. This position will be reporting to Marketing & Communication Director and with one direct report.

Job Overview

We are seeking a strategic and performance-oriented Social Media Manager to lead and elevate our social media ecosystem in Japan.

This role goes beyond daily channel management. It requires the ability to translate global brand strategy into locally relevant activation while ensuring measurable impact on brand visibility, customer engagement, and business contribution.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capability with refined brand sensitivity, understands the luxury beauty landscape, and can operate confidently in a global matrix organization.

This role has strong potential to evolve toward a broader communication leadership scope, integrating social influence within the brand’s overall communication ecosystem.

Job responsibilities

1) Strategic Leadership

  • Adapt and localize the global social media strategy for the Japanese market.
  • Define clear objectives and execution roadmaps aligned with overall brand priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance brand visibility and customer engagement across social platforms.
  • Ensure alignment between social activation and the broader brand communication framework.

2) Performance & Business Contribution

  • Establish clear KPIs linked to brand awareness, engagement quality, traffic contribution, and recruitment impact.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report performance with structured and causal insights.
  • Continuously optimize initiatives based on data‑driven learnings.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to enhance social media’s contribution to overall business performance.

3) Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing, Media, Digital, Sales, and IT teams to ensure alignment.
  • Ensure social initiatives support broader brand campaigns and key launches.
  • Coordinate and manage agency and vendor relationships.

4) Content & Channel Excellence

  • Develop and execute a social media calendar aligned with HQ and local marketing plans.
  • Manage key platforms (e.g., LINE, X, @cosme, LIPS, online communities) with both brand and performance mindset.
  • Identify emerging trends and integrate relevant innovations while maintaining strict alignment with Maison DNA.

5) Organizational Impact

  • Promote social media best practices and performance accountability within the organization.
  • Elevate reporting standards and structured insight sharing.
  • Act as a bridge between local teams and HQ regarding social‑related topics.

Profile

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing social media or digital marketing in Japan.
  • Strong analytical capability and comfort working in KPI‑driven environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization and collaborate cross‑functionally.
  • Business‑level English (written and spoken) and native‑level Japanese writing skills.
  • Structured thinker with strong communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in luxury, beauty, or premium consumer brands preferred.
  • Experience contributing to integrated digital campaigns.
  • Ability to balance brand storytelling with measurable performance.
  • Comfortable presenting structured insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates potential for broader communication leadership development over time.
