Magdeburg University Hospital is a public institution (A.ö.R.) and, together with the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University, forms UNIVERSITÄTSMEDIZIN MAGDEBURG. With approximately 1,100 beds in 27 clinics and 28 institutes or associated departments, it is the largest healthcare facility in northern Saxony-Anhalt and, in addition to research and teaching, offers the entire spectrum of multi-professional and highly specialized university maximum care.

Your mission

Magdeburg University Medical Center combines cutting-edge medicine, research, and teaching with highly critical digital systems. To ensure that these remain reliable, secure, and efficient, a strong leader is needed: you.
As Head of IT Infrastructure & IT Security, you will lead one of the most central departments in the IT & Medical Technology division. You will shape the strategic development of our overall infrastructure – from networks and data centers to clouds and workplace services to identity & access management, security operations, and KRITIS-relevant security architectures.
You will create clear structures, lead teams of experts (m/f/d) with confidence, and develop a technological foundation that protects clinical operations and actively drives digital transformation.

Strategic and organizational leadership

  • Management of an interdisciplinary team from the areas of network, server/storage, data center/cloud, workplace, IAM, and security operations
  • Definition and implementation of a strategic roadmap for the entire IT infrastructure
  • Ensuring stable, secure, and cost-effective IT operations
  • Developing an open, transparent, and empowering leadership culture

Responsibility for infrastruct

  • Network & Communication: Core, WAN, WLAN, firewalls, segmentation, SD-Access
  • Data center & cloud: Virtualization, storage, backup strategies, high availability
  • Workplace & client management: Lifecycle, endpoint security, mobile devices, hybrid work
  • Identity & access management: Role models, authorization processes, provisioning
  • Security operations: SIEM, SOC processes, vulnerability management, incident response
  • Security architectures: Zero trust, perimeter and endpoint security, hardening standards

Information security, KRITIS & compliance

  • Assumption of all KRITIS and §8a-relevant responsibilities in the infrastructure area
  • Close cooperation with CISO, information security officers, and data protection
  • Implementation of standards and requirements from ISO 27001, BSI basic protection and KRITIS regulation
  • Provision of complete documentation, auditability and evidence management
  • Collaboration on business continuity, emergency planning and cyber resilience concepts

Project, budget, and resource management. Managing large modernization and security projects (e.g., data center transformation programs, network redesigns, IAM realignment). Responsibility for budget planning, procurement, resource requirements, and service provider management. Representing the department in internal committees, audits, and vis-à-vis external partners. Ensuring measurable service quality and sustainable operating results. Collaborating on business continuity, emergency planning, and cyber resilience concepts. Your profile

  • Several years of management experience in IT infrastructure, IT security, or data center/network operations
  • Very good understanding of modern infrastructure architectures (network, server, virtualization, storage, cloud, IAM)
  • Experience in KRITIS or highly regulated environments; healthcare is a plus
  • Expertise in security operations, monitoring, zero-trust approaches, and security architectures
  • Strong organizational, strategic, and communication skills
  • Leadership personality who provides guidance, motivates, and strengthens teams in the long term

Remuneration: You can expect performance-based remuneration depending on your assigned tasks and fulfillment of personal requirements, up to pay grade E 13 according to the in-house collective agreement of the University Medical Center Magdeburg A.ö.R.

Position: The position is available immediately, full-time (38.5 hours/week) and permanent.
