Head of Heating Operations | Berlin

Brightsmith is representing a cleantech scale-up delivering decentralised heating, cooling, and energy infrastructure solutions for the built environment. Our client, is headquartered in Berlin and works closely with commercial real estate partners to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring reliable, cost-efficient energy supply.

We are now seeking a Head of Heating Operations to lead all operational, technical, and administrative processes across the full lifecycle of heating and cooling projects. This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role with responsibility spanning project readiness, operational performance, billing and revenue assurance, O&M oversight, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project readiness for heating and cooling systems, coordinating documentation, agreements, applications, and technical preparation
• Drive cross‑functional collaboration to ensure smooth transition from development into operations
• Manage post‑execution handover from EPC into heating operations, ensuring performance, compliance, and operability
• Oversee heating and gas billing, metering, and revenue assurance processes
• Ensure all systems are covered by valid O&M agreements and maintenance schedules
• Manage customer support processes, ticketing systems, and 24/7 access arrangements
• Own and continuously improve operational processes, SOPs, and internal standards
• Lead the implementation and integration of operational IT systems, including Odoo
• Manage and develop the heating operations team, fostering accountability and collaboration
• Coordinate closely with customers, landlords, suppliers, and service partners
• Support EPC project management, reporting, and handover accuracy
• Oversee operational data management, documentation, analysis, and forecasting

Who We’re Looking For

• A degree in engineering, energy systems, building services, or a comparable qualification
• Extensive experience in heating, cooling, or energy operations within complex infrastructure environments
• Strong understanding of operational processes, billing, metering, and O&M structures
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and cross‑functional stakeholders
• Structured, detail‑oriented, and solution‑driven approach
• Fluent German at C1 level or higher, with strong English communication skills
• Comfortable operating in a dynamic, growth‑oriented environment

Location and Package

This is a full‑time position based in Berlin with a weekly hybrid working model. The package includes a base salary of €100,000 plus a performance‑related bonus and additional benefits. Candidates must already be eligible to work in Germany.
