Position Title

Instructor – Nursing Med‑Surg (10 month) Evening

Summary

The incumbent is responsible for teaching medical surgical nursing courses with classroom and clinical components, primarily in evenings with some day and occasional weekend requirements. Courses may be offered in face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online format.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned, using effective instructional strategies, LMS, communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional technology to promote student success (normal teaching contact hours per week are 18).
  • Demonstrates best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students’ diverse academic needs.
  • Uses instructional technology, including multimedia, to meet students’ learning needs and achieve program objectives.
  • Assists or leads in planning and developing new curriculum and courses, evaluates and revises existing curriculum, and contributes to program review.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
  • Serves as an advisor for students, using effective advisement strategies and tools to promote retention and progression.
  • Assists students toward successful completion of courses by providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved academic support.
  • Provides a minimum of six (6) posted office hours per week and remains accessible to students.
  • Maintains adequate and timely student records; evaluates and reports students’ progress and attendance promptly.
  • Works as a team member with faculty and staff to facilitate college and program operations, provides guidance to new and adjunct faculty.
  • Assists in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
  • Completes the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one‑year probationary period and obtains the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or demonstrates mastery of its competencies.
  • Continues professional development, remains current within the academic field, and commits to continuous improvement.
  • Participates in departmental, campus, and college meetings and serves on committees; advises student clubs and organizations as assigned.
  • Participates in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the college philosophy, including departmental program planning, marketing, budget development, and public relations.
  • Assists in providing support for recruitment, enrollment, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment activities as assigned.
  • Participates in day, evening, and weekend program staffing as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Four (4) years of relevant nursing work experience focused on adult medical‑surgical practice.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Delaware or a compact state at the time of application and during employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing subject matter, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocols; ability to communicate subject matter to a diverse population; ability to function in a clinical setting without limitation.
  • Must be able to meet the essential functions outlined for a clinical faculty member.
  • Compliance with required immunizations and clinical agency requirements.
