Intern Flight Software Engineering (m/f/d)

Overview

ATMOS Space Cargo is seeking a Flight Software Engineering Intern to support the development of mission-critical embedded software for the Phoenix2 spacecraft. You will work closely with experienced flight software and hardware engineers to help implement, test, and document real-time software for spacecraft subsystems.

Responsibilities

• You will assist in designing and implementing flight software modules for Phoenix2 subsystems.
• You will support development of real-time embedded code following ECSS and CCSDS guidelines.
• You will collaborate with hardware engineers to understand subsystem behaviour and integration needs.
• You will help troubleshoot software and hardware-related issues under guidance from senior engineers.
• You will contribute to documentation for reproducibility, traceability, and long-term maintainability.
• You will participate in code reviews, testing activities, and integration sessions.

Profile required

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic experience with C/C++ or Python.
• Interest in embedded systems, realtime software, or aerospace applications.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments and scripting.
• Willingness to learn ECSS standards, CCSDS protocols, and spacecraft software practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred qualifications

• Exposure to RTOS concepts or embedded development.
• Interest in telecommand/telemetry systems or space communication protocols.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, or structured documentation tools.
• Experience working in multicultural or interdisciplinary teams.
