Intern/Master Thesis Student - Privacy Enhancing Technologies and Data Security

Huawei's Heisenberg Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products. The Data Protection Lab , based in Düsseldorf, develops practical cryptographic technologies focusing on data integrity and confidentiality. To support our research activities, we are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated students. In this role, the student will contribute to the development of applied cryptographic solutions for data security, work on real-world industrial challenges, and help improve the security of our current and future products and services.

Intern/Master Thesis Student - Privacy Enhancing Technologies and Data Security (m/f/d)

Your mission

• Analyze data security risks of target application scenarios.
• Support the development of data security solutions.
• Implement proofs of concept for data security solutions.
• Improve the data security engineering process as well as the data security-by-design concept.
• Document the findings and contribute to the writing of research articles.

Your areas of expertise

• Currently enrolled as a Bachelor or Master Student in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.
• Good programming skills in Java/C/C++/Python/Rust.
• Excellent ability to work in a team and communication skills.
• Proactive and self-motivating character as well as the willingness to take initiatives and to be responsible for your project.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Coursework or seminars in cryptography, cryptographic protocols, or provable security is a plus.
• Practical experience with cryptographic libraries and the implementation of cryptographic protocols is a plus.
• Rudimentary knowledge of post-quantum secure cryptographic primitives is a plus.
