Lead AI Engineer / Senior AI Engineer

We're looking for a Senior / Lead AI Engineer with deep generative AI expertise and solid software engineering foundations to help design and build intelligent, multi-agent capabilities for enterprise applications across our client base. Our team runs in startup mode with high autonomy, and a real opportunity to influence how advanced AI gets built and scaled in practice. You know what it takes to get AI into production and can navigate ambiguity, technical complexity, and cross-functional collaboration with confidence. Tasks

What You'll Do: You can have it all: applied AI, product engineering, and tangible value creation.

Key responsibilities include:

• AI delivery

  Conceive and implement AI solutions across both customer-facing product features and internal back-office workflows.

• LLM & RAG system development

  Design and build LLM-based applications and RAG pipelines, bringing together vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search to produce reliable, context-aware results at scale.

• AI agents for productivity & business automation

  Create AI-driven agents and automations that simplify and accelerate customer workflows across CRMs, ERPs, ticketing platforms, and other core business systems. Cut down on manual effort, mistakes, and turnaround times.

• Enterprise architecture integration

  Embed AI capabilities into existing cloud-native architectures, APIs, and data ecosystems, with a focus on security, resilience, and scalability in production environments.

• Cross-functional collaboration

  Work hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and leadership teams on the client side to translate technical AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes.

• Client advisory & solution design

  Guide clients in shaping and executing their data, AI, and generative AI strategies. Cover everything from initial architecture decisions and technical direction through to live deployment.

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

Core experience: 4+ years in software engineering, AI, or solutions roles, with hands-on experience shipping production AI/LLM systems.

Practical expertise across:

• LLMs, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation
• Agentic systems, multi-agent orchestration, and complex workflow automation
• Vector search technologies and semantic retrieval
• Python as a primary language, plus proficiency in at least one of JavaScript/TypeScript/Java/Kotlin
• AI platforms and developer tooling such as OpenAI, Azure AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Pinecone, or Weaviate
• Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) and delivery practices including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Solid background in SaaS and enterprise software engineering settings
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in German and English

Work Structure

• Location: Hamburg, Germany
• Working model: Predominantly remote, with one day per week in our Hamburg city-centre office
