Lead Sourcing Specialist responsible for the management of assigned commodities for USA and the North American region, negotiating with dedicated stakeholders. The Lead Sourcing Specialist – Commodity Management is accountable for executing commodity sourcing strategies for Dead Tank Circuit Breakers (DTCB) and Instrument Transformers (ITR) within the Grid Solutions – Power Transmission business in North America. The role owns end‑to‑end sourcing performance for assigned commodities and suppliers, ensuring competitive cost, qualified supply, and robust risk mitigation in support of grid project execution.
Operating as a senior individual contributor, this position requires independent judgment, strong market expertise, and the ability to lead transversal initiatives across engineering, quality, operations, finance, legal and project teams without direct authority.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Commodity Strategy, Governance & KPI Ownership
- Define and execute NAM and global sourcing strategies for Dead Tank Circuit Breakers and Instrument Transformers, aligned with Grid Solutions PT priorities and GE Vernova sourcing governance.
- Own and drive key GE Vernova sourcing KPIs, including but not limited to:
- Year‑over‑year cost productivity (PPV, cost‑out)
- Inflation and deflation management with root cause analysis
- Dual‑sourcing and supplier risk reduction metrics
- Supplier delivery and quality performance (OTD, DPPM)
- Ensure all sourcing activities comply with GE Vernova policies, approval matrices, and the GE Vernova Code of Conduct.
- Business Planning, CAPEX & Investment Governance
- Develop detailed commodity business plans supporting sourcing strategies, including supplier industrialization and capacity expansion for DTCB and ITR technologies.
- Identify required investments in tooling at suppliers.
- Prepare financial impact analyses (ROI, payback, risk mitigation benefits).
- Develop and submit sourcing CAPEX proposals in line with GE Vernova governance processes, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
- Define and manage project timelines, milestones, and financial tracking for approved investments in tooling at suppliers.
- Supplier Development & Market Management
- Lead supplier development initiatives focused on cost competitiveness, capacity, quality, and sustainability within the DTCB and Instrument Transformers supplier market.
- Drive dual‑sourcing and regionalization strategies to mitigate risk for critical grid projects.
- Maintain deep understanding of global supplier landscapes, including strategic component manufacturers across NAM, Europe, and Asia.
- End‑to‑End Supplier & Part Homologation
- Own a portfolio of sourcing and qualification initiatives from supplier prospection to final homologation.
- Lead supplier identification, market screening, and capability assessments specific to DTCB and ITR technologies.
- Structure and lead RFQ/RFP processes, commercial evaluations, and negotiations.
- Coordinate and support supplier audits in collaboration with Quality and Engineering/R&D teams.
- Manage sample deliveries, pilot batches, and coordinate the defined scope of testing and validation.
- Ensure disciplined technical and quality reporting, formal approvals, and final supplier/part homologation.
- Establish supplier agreements and contracts following successful qualification.
- Negotiation, Contracting & Cost Management
- Lead complex negotiations with supplier senior leadership and decision‑makers.
- Structure and manage regional and global contracts, ensuring alignment with cost models, risk allocation, compliance, and long‑term value creation.
- Perform comprehensive cost analyses, including logistics, duties, taxes, make‑or‑buy evaluations, and total cost of ownership.
- Data Analytics, Reporting & Performance Reviews
- Use data analytics tools to support fact‑based sourcing decisions and continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present commodity performance reviews, including KPI dashboards, inflation/deflation drivers, and savings realization.
- Define corrective action plans and track execution through established governance forums.
- Problem Solving & Cross‑Functional Support
- Act as a structured problem solver, supporting Procurement, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams.
- Lead or support supplier related root cause analysis related to cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity issues.
- Define, implement, and track corrective and preventive actions with suppliers and internal teams.
- Ensure issues are resolved in a sustainable manner and lessons learned are embedded into sourcing and qualification processes.
- Transversal Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
- Lead and participate in transversal initiatives across sourcing, engineering, R&D, tendering, finance, quality, and customer project execution teams.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for DTCB and ITR sourcing, mentoring colleagues and sharing best practices.
- Foster a collaborative, transparent, and continuous improvement culture.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or supply chain management within the energy or power transmission sector.
- Strong expertise in Circuit Breakers and/or Instrument Transformers and their global supplier markets.
- Demonstrated success in global sourcing, supplier development, and complex negotiations.
- Proven ability to build business cases, CAPEX proposals, and financial impact analyses.
- Strong knowledge of logistics, customs duties, taxes, make‑or‑buy analysis, and total cost ownership.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience in KPI reporting, root cause analysis, and action planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
