Job Overview

We are in search of a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to join our diverse and fast-paced Atlanta, GA organization. As a core team member, you will be interacting with other electric utility disciplines, leading and designing high voltage utility substation projects.

Remote Option

  • Candidates must be located in the United States and live further than 50 miles from the Atlanta, GA office.
  • Preferred candidates would be located in Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Alabama.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer sites and in office as needed (10% to 20% travel).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for medium to large scale utilities/substations.
  • Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations.
  • Perform quality control reviews on medium to large substation physical design projects.
  • Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects.
  • Develop and review proposals, and scopes of work for substation physical projects.
  • Develop and provide advanced technical presentations to the team.
  • Be involved in client interaction (including site visits) with a drive for customer satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or related field with eight (8+) years of Substation physical design experience.
  • Leadership experience in executing substation projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to lead bids and proposal efforts for utility clients.
  • Ability to perform quality control checks on substation design projects.
  • Act as a supervisor for one to six direct reports.
  • Ability to read and design substation physical drawings such as one line drawings, three line drawings, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding drawings.
  • Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings such as one-line drawings, three line drawings, AC/DC schematic drawings and wiring design.
  • Ability to create and check bill of materials for substation physical projects.
  • Act as a key contributor to developing substation physical application documents to define design scope, philosophies, methodologies, and criteria for medium and high-voltage substation projects.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.
  • Ability to attend site visits at customer locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with QA/QC.
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design.
  • Experience with BUS calculations.
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
  • Experience with SDS AutoCAD Electrical software.

Compensation

Pay Range: $107,900.00 – $195,050.00. Compensation packages reflect the importance of the work and include competitive pay, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement benefits.
