LEO Satellite System & Ground Segment Engineer

We are looking for a LEO Systems & Ground Segment Engineer to work at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.

About the client and location

The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Provide engineering services to the definition of the ground segments of the LEO future missions
  • Provide expertise on specific engineering aspects related to the design and procurement of ground segments for the LEO future missions.
  • Support the technical and programmatic interactions for the LEO future missions.
  • Support the ground segment managers and LEO future mission programmes in general in the daily activities.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in end‑to‑end data acquisition and processing.
  • Background in mission control systems and operations.
  • Proficient in requirements‑based design, development, and verification of satellite ground systems.
  • Familiarity with requirement management processes and tools, such as DOORS.
  • Background in implementing processes guided by standards, especially ECSS and CCSDS.
  • Knowledgeable in system change control and configuration management procedures.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Working with Low-Earth Orbiting satellites
  • Knowledge of relevant space missions e.g., ground segment development of EPS-SG, Aeolus and/or satellites constellations.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect).
