Manager Mechanics Engineering & Integration (m/f/d)

Overview

In this role as a Leader of ME development of global Connectivity Hardware Engineering Team inside the SBU Connectivity to realize automotive telematics systems. She/he leads groups like Mechanical Product Development or/and Mechanics Engineering & Support of OEM customer projects and coordinates all ME-related tasks acc. the Harman BMS processes, the guidance of Mechanical Development and the collaboration with all teams inside and outside his organization necessary for product development. She/he also acts as a supervisor Mechanics interface to the customer. She/he reports to the Supervisor Manager Hardware/Mechanics Engineering & Integration or/and to Director Hardware Delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the areas of Mechanics Engineering & Integration, including ME Project Lead, ME Engineering and Integration Support for manufacturing, qualification and certification for the development of Connectivity-BU ECU (Electronic Control Unit) products in Telematics, V2X OBU/RSU for assigned customer projects globally.
  • Own mechanical design and BoM and contribute to the business case and achievement of the 5 pillar Transformation goals of the SBU.
  • Provide leadership across mechanical concept, BoM & design, design integration, design verification and validation, with global collaboration across Hardware Engineering, System Integration, Testing & Validation and Manufacturing.
  • Support industrialization, qualification and certification; assist in resource, project and budget planning with a global perspective and HCC/BCC rate.

Growth

  • Support the execution and control of analysis, evaluation and feasibility of customer requirements, OEM specifications (RFC, RFI, RFQ and CRs), market analysis/benchmarks, BOM estimates and calculation, effort estimation and risk management support.
  • Develop high-complexity Telematics Control Units (TCU) based on the Telematics roadmap, considering latest technology, best cost BoM, Harman BMS Process and Guidelines, customer requirements and industry standards.

  • Support in HW/ME Gate-Review for Telematics Projects globally
  • Support in deployment and implementation of Harman Automotive BMS Design Process
  • Support or lead in taskforce topics and report to Top Management
  • Support in failure analysis and maintenance support

Technology & Innovation

  • Gathering and reporting of new customer features/innovations and support in definition/specification of new product features and technology strategies

Team

  • Formal supervisory responsibilities and technical lead of ME Engineering including ME Project Lead and ME Engineering & Integration
  • Direct reports: 5-10 (Germany, Romania)
  • Indirect reports: >10 depending on projects (global)
  • Close collaboration with cross SBU and other Harman Engineering teams
  • Planning and prioritization recommendations of tasks/projects in alignment with the supervisor manager
  • Planning of further education and training; incorporation of new employees
  • Execution of special projects on behalf of the disciplinary superior

Project Management

  • Technical and functional lead of ME engineering teams across regions (EU, APAC, NA) & cross functions for development of assigned automotive infotainment projects
  • Collect and analyze project data and report status to management
  • Analyze customer specifications, generate work packages, and perform design reviews
  • Provide technical support for industrialization of functional items in international settings (e.g., ODM, EMS)
  • Ensure requirement management with OEM customers, business units and suppliers

What You Need To Be Successful

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering or appropriate graduation)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in ME development of In-vehicle Infotainment systems, telematics/connectivity, or other automotive ECUs of similar complexity
  • Practice in project management with more than 5 years’ experience
  • Experience in technical leading a team
  • Strong knowledge in Mechanics architecture and development
  • Know-how in production technology/capability, mechanical integration of hardware components
  • High knowledge of automotive requirements
  • Structured and target-oriented working style with cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to work with large internal/external teams and under pressure
  • Creativity with analytical problem-solving capabilities
  • Effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written English skills

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Good negotiation skills
  • Experience in requirements management (e.g., DOORS, DNG, ALM) beneficial
