Particularly in the case of aluminum-based layers, performance depends significantly on the internal coating quality, which is determined by the particle bond, porosity, and interface conditions. Currently, however, robust, non-destructive methods are lacking to evaluate this quality inline or close to the process—an essential prerequisite for industrial use in safety-critical applications.* In this Master’s thesis, the potential of various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for assessing coating quality is to be investigated.
