We are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to take a leading role in the design, development, and validation of high-voltage and medium-voltage power converter systems. The Medium Voltage Power Electronics Engineer will contribute to advanced R&D activities focused on modular and multilevel converter technologies, supporting the development of high-performance, reliable power conversion solutions for applications such as grid-connected systems, energy conversion, and industrial power electronics.
Your Responsibilities
- Take ownership of power converter designs, from the initial concept to detailed design, prototyping and validation
- Design, model and analyse high- and medium-voltage power converters, including modular multilevel converters and other multilevel topologies
- Select suitable converter topologies, semiconductor devices and passive components based on performance, efficiency and reliability requirements
- Develop detailed electrical and thermal models of power electronic systems
- Conduct system-level simulations to analyse the behaviour of converters under different operating and fault conditions
- Support the design and implementation of control and modulation strategies for multilevel converters
- Contribute to the development of firmware and digital control, with experience of DSPs and FPGAs being advantageous
- Support the construction, integration and commissioning of laboratory prototypes and R&D test setups
- Plan and conduct experimental testing, including voltage and current measurements, efficiency evaluations and performance validations
- Analyse the results of experiments and correlate measurements with simulation models
- Prepare technical documentation, design reports and test summaries
- Work closely with mechanical, control and systems engineers on multidisciplinary projects
Your Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field
- Previous professional experience in a similar role
- Proven experience in high-voltage or medium-voltage power converter development
- Strong knowledge of multilevel converter topologies, particularly modular multilevel converters
- Hands‑on experience with power electronics simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice, or equivalent
- Understanding of insulation, grounding, protection, and safety aspects in high‑voltage systems
- Experience with digital control platforms such as microcontrollers or DSPs, with FPGA experience considered a strong plus
- Basic hands‑on experience in building and testing power electronics hardware
- Passion for research and innovation, and a willingness to learn and adapt quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, German is a plus
