Our Client’s Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fibre and cable, hardware and equipment, to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. They now seek a Network Design Engineer or Network Design Architect for their Multi-Tenant Data Centres. These Clients range from Hyper-Scale Data Centres through Multi-Tenant Data Centres to AI Data Centre customers internationally.

As a Network Design Engineer or Network Design Architect for Data Centres, you will be responsible for the EMEA region to include Germany, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Location

Location: Hybrid working in Berlin, Germany with circa 25% travel both in Germany & Internationally to blue chip client sites

Key Responsibilities

From a customer enquiry, you will design the solution and be responsible for the Bill-of-Materials (BOMs) generation process.

  • Conduct thorough BOM verification to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications and within our client’s product portfolio.
  • Advise customers (internal or external) about products and their use in various applications. This includes explaining product benefits and determining detailed part number lists necessary for system solutions to fulfil customer RFQs (Request for Quote).
  • Collaborate with account managers and customers to address technical inquiries, provide solutions and resolve any discrepancies identified during the BOM verification process.
  • Create datasheets, system design, rack elevation drawings, technical papers and customer responses as needed.
  • Deliver internal and external training, workshops and presentations on our client’s products directly to customers, installers, and distribution partners.
  • This will involve 25% travel in the EMEA region.
  • Provide pre-sales and after-sales customer support including product recommendation, system design, system installation training, testing, and troubleshooting at customer sites.
  • Provide feedback to development/PLM (product line management) regarding new product evaluation, product improvements and compliance to regional standards and norms.

Qualifications

Education : University Engineering Degree as a minimum requirement in a relevant subject to include Telecoms, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Process Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent software, engineering or science related subject.

Experience

At least 2-5 years in Telecom, Data Centre, or ICT (Information & Communications Technology) design and engineering, having worked for either a manufacturer, integrator or contractor company to include the likes of CommScope, AFL Global, Corning, Leoni Group, Draka, Prysmian or similar company in telecoms or data centre design solutions.

Required Skills

  • Strong English writing and speaking skills. Any additional European language (German, French, Spanish, Italian, etc.) is considered a big plus.
  • You will have worked as a Data Centre Design Engineer, Network Design Architect, Telecoms Design Engineer, Telecoms Solution Architect, A Principal Engineer, Implementation Engineer, Pre-Sales Engineer, Project Manager or equivalent Engineer with 2 + Years of Data Centres, Hyperscale Data Centres and/or Multi-Tenant Data Centres Engineering.
  • Data centre or Telecom Network Design knowledge and related proven experience.
  • Demonstrated Technical Support Experience (customer oriented, field solutions, timely responses).
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and complex ideas to both highly technical audiences and individuals with limited technical background.
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional team environments and a willingness to collaborate and learn from others.
  • Strong computer skills (Office365, Power point, Word, Excel, Visio) and BlueBeam.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as RCDD, DCDC, CDCDP or similar are considered a big plus but not essential.
  • Telecom active equipment configuration: Ethernet switches, IP routers, OLT/ONT, etc.
  • Travel Requirements Up to 25% of the working time, primarily within Europe, but also potentially to the US, or Asia.
