Permitting Director

Permitting Director - BESS & Solar - Northern Germany We are seeking an experienced Director of Permitting to lead all permitting activities for a growing portfolio of utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across Northern Germany.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for defining permitting strategy, managing complex approval processes under German planning law, and leading a regional permitting team from early-stage development through Ready-to-Build (RTB).

The successful candidate will combine deep regulatory expertise with strong stakeholder management skills and a proven track record delivering large-scale renewable projects in Germany.

Key Responsibilities

Define and implement permitting strategy for Solar PV and BESS projects across Northern Germany

Lead and develop a regional permitting team (internal and external consultants)

Establish best-in-class processes to accelerate timelines and reduce permitting risk

Act as the senior escalation point for complex regulatory matters

Project Execution (RTB Delivery)

Oversee projects from site identification through zoning approval, B-Plan procedures, and building permits (BauGB / BImSchG where applicable)

Manage environmental studies (EIA/UVP), species protection assessments, and technical documentation

Coordinate grid connection permitting processes with DSOs and TSOs

Requirements

4+ years’ experience in renewable energy permitting in Germany

Proven track record delivering utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects to RTB

Deep knowledge of BauGB, regional planning procedures, and environmental permitting

Strong experience working with municipalities in Northern Germany

Leadership experience managing permitting teams

Fluent German (C2/native) and strong English skills

Degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Law, or related field
