Post‑doctoral Researcher (f/m/x)

The Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich, together with the Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), seeks a highly qualified and motivated Post‑doctoral researcher to develop a novel quantum‑enhanced microscope.

Mission

The successful candidate will pioneer quantum‑enabled methodologies for biomedical research, focusing on a next‑generation microscope that integrates visible‑light and mid‑infrared microscopy with quantum techniques. The role covers the full pipeline from conceptual design and instrument development to performance characterisation and application in biological tissue, providing an opportunity to shape the technology from foundations to first biomedical use cases.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics or optics with a focus on quantum techniques
  • Excellent research track record and publications in top‑ranked journals
  • Strong motivation, scientific curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence
  • Advanced hands‑on experience in optics, sensors, lasers, optical fibres
  • Programming skills in MATLAB or Python
  • Team‑player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment
  • Excellent command of the English language

Offer
