The DFG-funded research project “Edition and Material Investigation of the ‘Cambridge Codex’ T-S 10 K 22” aims to produce a new critical edition (both print and digital) as well as a philological and material analysis of the oldest manuscript collection of Yiddish texts. The project is jointly led by Dr. Jan Hon (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) and Dr. Uri Zvi Shachar (Tel Aviv University) and is conducted in cooperation with the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit at Cambridge University Library.
We invite applications for a position of a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in Medieval Jewish Studies in the German branch of the project, based in Erlangen. The position is initially limited to one year. An extension for the remaining project period (up to a total of three years) is intended, subject to successful evaluation and continued project funding.
We seek a researcher with expertise in Jewish literature of the Middle Ages and (late) antiquity. Their primary task will be the cataloguing of Hebrew and Aramaic sources of the Yiddish texts from the Cambridge Codex (Bible, Midrash, Piyyutim, Talmud). The researcher will co-author the edition, including commentaries, and contribute to parts of the accompanying collective monograph.
Applications with a brief cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas, and a digital version of a recent relevant academic work (preferably PhD thesis) are to be submitted electronically through the online FAU application platform by March 20, 2026.

Severely disabled persons as defined by the German Severely Disabled Persons Act will be given preferential consideration if they have the same professional qualifications and personal aptitude and if the advertised position is suitable for severely disabled persons. Details can be found in the respective job posting under “Remarks.”
At the applicant’s request, the Equal Opportunities Officer may be included in the job interview without any disadvantage to the applicant.
All advertised positions are generally suitable for part-time work unless stated otherwise in the job posting.
