To strengthen our team in the division 2.4 “Testing and Evaluation of Explosives and Pyrotechnics” in Berlin‑Steglitz, we are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) in the field of natural sciences or engineering, starting as soon as possible.

Remuneration group 13 TVöD. Official/permanent employment relationship. Full‑time, suitable as part‑time employment, subject to the approval of funds.

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

• Research and development in civil safety, particularly with regard to numerical simulation of the impact of detonation and deflagration events on infrastructure and modelling of structural behaviour under highly dynamic loads
• Provision of scientific and technical services for assessing the safety of facilities for the manufacture and storage of explosives and pyrotechnic articles, including the investigation of incidents using validated simulation models
• Technical responsibility for official activities relating to the classification of explosives and pyrotechnics, including the further development of testing methods

Your qualifications:

• Successful scientific university degree specialising in a natural science or engineering subject and with a very good PhD
• Knowledge of impact assessments of detonation and deflagration events
• Knowledge of validated numerical simulation and modelling approaches for assessing highly dynamic loads on structures, as well as measurement techniques in this field
• Knowledge of the safety assessment of explosives/pyrotechnics, including relevant legal provisions (explosives and dangerous goods legislation) and relevant technical regulations, is desirable
• Experience in supervision of young scientists is desirable
• Consulting expertise and interest in international and national regulation and interdisciplinary scientific work
• Experience in acquiring and management of F&E projects and scientific project management is desirable
• Proven publication activity
• Very good, precise and appropriate command of German and English
• Good communication and information behaviour, goal‑oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to make decisions, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
