Predoctoral Researcher – Immunobiology Group

Position Summary: The Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC) invites applications for a predoctoral researcher to conduct a doctoral thesis within the project UNDERstanding Lipid ImmunoMetabolIsm To trEat Disease (UNLIMITED) (ref: ). The research will investigate how manipulation of fatty acid oxidation in tissue macrophages influences their metabolic and functional programming in homeostasis and in preclinical disease models of atherosclerosis and cancer.

Mandatory Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical or health sciences, biophysics, bioengineering, or related fields.
Master’s degree in biomedicine, health sciences, or related areas.
Enrolled in a doctoral program at the time the contract is formalized.
No more than 4 years of predoctoral appointment, in accordance with Article 21 of the Science Law.
No existing Doctoral degree from any Spanish or foreign university.
Not have resided or carried out main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment date.

Valuable Requirements

Scientific and technical contributions, including research stays, theses, and expertise in immunology, cellular biology, mitochondrial research, or cardiovascular biology.
Curricular merits such as awards, authorship of research articles or reviews, conference contributions.
Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, animal handling, and experimentation.
International mobility and quality of research stays.
Interview performance.

Responsibilities

Characterize metabolic profiles in vitro and ex vivo following FAO manipulation in macrophages.
Elucidate the role of FAO in macrophage function.
Study the impact of FAO induction or inhibition on tissue homeostasis and inflammation in atherosclerosis and tumor models.
Develop therapeutic modulation of FAO in macrophages using liposome-based delivery strategies.
Engage in training workshops at partner laboratories (Finley Lab, Lemonciel Lab, Van den Bossche Lab).

1‑year initial contract, extendable up to 4 years under Article 21 of the Science Law.
