Overview

Professorship of Building Theory and Design (occupation group W 2) at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Dessau site, Department of Architecture, Facility Management and Geoinformation.

The professorship is responsible for the subject areas of building theory and design. It serves two central modules in the curriculum and focuses on sustainability, careful use of materials and ecological resources. The position involves teaching and guiding students from analysis of the existing situation through initial spatial-functional ideas and detailed elaboration to presentation, with a focus on design and technology in relation to the supporting structure, building construction and the building envelope.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Architecture with emphasis on design and building theory in English and German.
  • Develop and deliver courses using modern didactic methods and digital formats.
  • Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, student projects, and excursions; contribute to the strategic development of degree programs and continuing education, including career-integrated and dual degree programs.
  • Maintain intensive cooperation with practice and training partners for application-oriented studies.
  • Engage in applied research, interdisciplinary cooperation with national and international institutions, and participation in third-party funded projects.
  • Represent the professorship in teaching, further education and research in an application-oriented manner.
  • Participate in committees of academic self-administration.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in the field of building theory and experience in design, particularly related to the supporting structure, building construction and building envelope.
  • A relevant academic degree in Architecture and proven practical achievements in the field; a teaching portfolio demonstrating the ability to teach design concepts and buildings.
  • Ability to teach design and building theory in English and German for Bachelor’s/Master’s programs; willingness to develop courses with modern didactic methods and digital tools.
  • Experience in acquiring and implementing research, cooperation and/or third-party funded projects; publications in the relevant area.
  • International networking in the subject area is desirable; excellent knowledge of German and English language of instruction and intercultural skills are required.

Additional Information

The formal recruitment requirements align with applicable higher education laws. Appointment to a professorship may be initially as a probationary civil servant or temporary private-law employment, with potential conversion upon successful probation.
