Position

W2 TT W3 professor of Knowledge‑Based Systems (w/m/d) at the Institute for Information Systems, University of Lübeck. The position is initially tenured for five years (W2) with potential to be extended and promoted to W3 upon positive evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an independent research group at IFIS.
• Contribute to research and teaching in the fundamental areas of computer science represented by the professorship.
• Lead the lecture “Databases” and participate in teaching roles for Bachelor, Master, and continuing education programs in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and other STEM disciplines.
• Develop and secure third‑party funding (particularly DFG) and oversee interdisciplinary project leadership.
• Collaborate within the IFIS, the Faculty of Computer Science, medical informatics, and the University’s Scientific Computing centre; engage with research foci such as LEMMI and Human‑AI Interaction.
• Contribute to the university’s research priorities in the specified areas.

Qualifications

• Strong research record in foundational computer science with proven excellence in specified areas: modeling and representation of contextual knowledge, cognitively inspired information processing, data management, application of databases in complex systems, ontologies (Semantic Web).
• Interdisciplinary experience at the intersection of cognitively inspired knowledge approaches and practical computer science.
• Experience in human‑centred AI, intelligent systems, and robotics is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to secure external funding and manage interdisciplinary projects.
• Fluency in German required; English proficiency suitable for teaching Master programmes.
