Freelance Project Manager - Pipeline Construction (Northern Germany)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to oversee planning, coordination, and overall delivery of a major hydrogen transmission pipeline in Northern Germany. The role provides project leadership, manages interfaces between engineering and construction, and ensures the project meets schedule, cost, safety, and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day project management across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning workstreams.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and reporting frameworks.
• Coordinate between EPC contractors, engineering teams, land access, permitting, and operations.
• Ensure the project complies with German HSE, environmental, and technical standards.
• Manage change control, contract performance, and project documentation.
• Prepare and deliver regular progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Support stakeholder engagement with authorities, landowners, and community representatives.
• Drive issue resolution and decision-making across project interfaces.

Requirements

• 8-12+ years' experience in project management on major energy, pipeline, or infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong understanding of German regulations (HSE, permitting, environmental, DVGW).
• Skilled in project controls: scheduling, cost tracking, risk management, reporting.
• Experience working with EPC delivery models.
• Fluent in English; working-level German.
• Project management certification desirable.

• Travel required across project corridor
