Roles that require PVG Membership
From 1 April 2023, candidates in roles with a full‑time salary of £30,000 or more will need to meet the cost of a PVG membership. The Council will initially pay the cost of the membership (either £18 for existing members or £59 for non‑members) and deduct the amount from the employee’s first full month’s salary.
Job Purpose / About the Role
The Property Inspector (Mechanical) is responsible for assessing the condition, safety and compliance of mechanical systems within properties under the remit of Corporate Landlord. This includes detailed inspections of HVAC systems, plumbing, boilers, fire suppression equipment, ventilation, pumps and other mechanical installations to ensure they meet regulatory standards and operate efficiently. The post holder collaborates with building users, contractors and maintenance teams to support safe operations and plan long‑term asset maintenance.
Key Requirements
- Technical and specialist knowledge gained through a qualification at SVQ Level 3, HNC level, Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- A valid UK driving licence.
Skills and Experience
- Identifying defects, inefficiencies, operational risks and non‑compliance.
- Reviewing specialist contractor documentation, maintenance logs and certificates.
- Identifying hazards and escalating appropriately.
- Ability to challenge poor workmanship or non‑compliant practices.
- Reading and understanding schematics, operation & maintenance manuals, technical drawings and specifications.
- Ensuring contractor delivery aligns with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Verifying contractor work meets agreed scope and service agreements.
- Use of facilities management systems, inspection apps, BIM data or asset registers.
- Problem‑solving and practical mindset when assessing property assets.
- Use of standard Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working within a team.
- Effective communication with facilities teams, property managers, engineers, contractors, designers and clients from a range of services and backgrounds.
