Public Affairs Manager

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

We are partnering with a highly respected organisation representing the German audit profession at national and global level.

This is a rare opportunity for a qualified accountant with hands-on audit experience in Germany to step into a strategically visible, internationally focused role supporting senior leadership in global engagement and technical dialogue.

The Opportunity

Sitting within the assurance/standards environment, you will act as a key interface between the German profession and international stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing for and attending international meetings and conferences (including engagement with bodies such as the International Federation of Accountants and the Global Accounting Alliance)
  • Monitoring international standard-setting and regulatory developments
  • Drafting briefing papers, presentations and reports for senior representatives
  • Translating and interpreting complex technical and policy discussions (German ↔ English)
  • Coordinating with global counterparts and internal technical departments
  • Supporting discussions across audit, assurance, accounting and sustainability topics

This is not a drafting role or an internal audit position. It is an externally facing, judgement-driven role requiring credibility, diplomacy and strong technical grounding.

Essential Requirements (Strict Criteria)

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / CA / CPA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3+ years’ external audit experience gained in Germany (German audit experience is essential – candidates with audit experience solely outside Germany cannot be considered.)
  • Strong understanding of audit methodology and professional standards
  • Native English speaker with exceptional written ability
  • Very strong German (minimum B2+, professional fluency required)
  • Confidence operating in politically sensitive or representative environments
  • Willingness to travel internationally (c. 20–30%, including occasional weekends/public holidays)
  • Ability to be present in Düsseldorf two days per week

Big 4 or mid-tier backgrounds are particularly relevant. Exposure to technical departments, regulatory work or professional bodies is advantageous, but not an essential requirement.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Direct exposure to international standard-setting discussions
  • Close collaboration with senior leadership
  • A visible, influence-based career path beyond traditional practice
  • Long-term impact on the German audit profession
  • Stable organisation with strong professional credibility

If you are a qualified auditor with German audit experience, native English, strong German skills and an interest in operating internationally at a strategic level, I would welcome a confidential conversation.
