Regular Optical Test Engineer (m/w/d)

Undertake, analyze and report experiments which will aid in the design of novel measurement systems. Work in a group of scientists, responsible for designing next‑generation test technologies and metrology, including hardware, software, instruments and fixtures.

Responsibilities

• Design experiments for optical systems under test
• Perform optical measurements and evaluate data to influence engineering designs
• Simulate the optical properties of the devices under test
• Support the design of novel metrology solutions and communicate design decisions and strategies to a cross‑functional team
• Conduct benchmarking of optical systems to inform design of emerging technologies
• Collaborate across teams to create, define and document measurement metrics an‹ specifications.

Mandatory Skills Description

• Competence in data analysis, visualisation, and algorithm development in Python or Matlab
• Ability to explore potential technologies and work with suppliers on prototype development
• Technical background in optical engineering, lasers, microscopy or optical design
• Hands‑on lab experience, especially in the alignment of optical benchtop setups
• Advanced knowledge in design, construction and operation of optical lab experiments, data analysis and reporting
• University/research background or relevant industry experience
• Experience in automatization of optical benchtop setups
• Experience in calibration and validation of optical instruments
• Experience in camera design and associated technologies
• Previous experience building or managing an optical laboratory
