Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence ‚CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter‘- In[...]

Stellenbeschreibung:

Overview

Institution: Cluster of Excellence „CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter“ (photon and nanosciences)

Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L

Start date: , fixed for a period of three years (fixed-term contract in accordance with WissZeitVG).

Application deadline:

Scope of work: part-time

Weekly hours: 75 % of standard work hours per week

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities.

The Research Associate candidate will:

  • develop innovative synthetic methodologies to produce disordered metal nitride–based nanoparticles and heterostructures, with an emphasis on uncovering emergent properties at the nanoscale;
  • synthesize and optimize these heterostructures, with laboratory studies to assess their photo-electro-catalytic behavior;
  • explore alternative materials or conditions to enhance functionality;
  • design, propose, and execute experiments using large-scale X-ray facilities such as synchrotron, XFEL, or other relevant methods to identify and characterize photo-catalytic active sites;
  • work independently while collaborating closely with other members of the CUI-AIM II consortium and the Koziej Lab.

The research aims to deepen the understanding of disordered nanoscaled structures and their photo-electro-catalytic applications, contributing to the advancement of efficient, tunable materials for energy and environmental applications.

Specific Responsibilities Include

  • synthesis and characterization of disordered nanoparticles
  • preparing and conducting experiments at synchrotron facilities, including beamtime proposal development, sample characterization using laboratory tools, and simulations
  • designing and fabricating samples for conformal mapping and other spatially-resolved analyses
  • collaborating on time-resolved experiments of disordered metal nitrides within the framework of the cluster of excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter”, including sample delivery and pump-probe measurements

Note: This research is part of the larger CUI-AIM program and university collaboration.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field. Applicants should have a master’s degree in chemistry, nanoscience, materials science, physics, or a related field. Interdisciplinary and international experience is highly encouraged. A strong background in solid-state physics or chemistry is preferred. Prior experience with colloidal synthesis of nanomaterials and their characterization (SEM, TEM, PXRD) is highly preferred. Experience with X-ray spectroscopic methods (synchrotron/XFEL, pump-probe) and data analysis/interpretation is advantageous. Hands-on experience with other laboratory techniques (UV-VIS, FTIR, TGA, AFM, etc.) are assets. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are required due to the international research environment.
