Overview

Fixed‑term research associate / PhD student position in full‑time (39.83 hours/week) at the Chair of Environmental/Resource Economics and Sustainability, Ruhr‑University Bochum. Position will start at the earliest possible date and last three years.

Research Focus

The PhD student will investigate incentives and behavioral dimensions of consumer flexibility, focusing on demand response interventions. Work will be part of the MSCA Doctoral Network Consumer Energy Demand Flexibility in Electricity Use (CoDeF). Supervising faculty: Prof. Dr. Andreas Löschel.

Your tasks

• Conduct research using behavioral experiments to incentivize consumer flexibility.
• Publish results, including as co‑author.
• Co‑supervise bachelor and master theses within the project.
• Participate in CoDeF activities.
• Engage in academic self‑governance.

Your profile

• Eligible under Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Action (must not have lived in Germany for more than 12 of the last 36 months).
• Master’s degree in economics or related discipline (must be awarded by start date).
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Very good written and spoken communication skills in English.
• Nice to have: training/experience in behavioral and experimental economics, data analysis with R, Stata, Python or similar.
• Prior research experience in behavioral, energy and/or environmental economics.
• Interest and enthusiasm for energy and climate policy.

Further information

The position is salaried under TV‑L, pay grade E‑13 if collective agreement requirements are met. The teaching load will be calculated according to § 3 of the Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (North Rhine‑Westphalia). German language courses are offered by the University Language Center, and the university supports free courses for employees.
