Research Associate (Postdoc) Theoretical Philosophy § 28 Subsection 2 HmbHG

Start date : , fixed for a period of three years (fixed‑term contract under Section 2 of the academic fixed‑term labor contract act). The contract may be extended up to three years based on performance. If requirements are fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status under Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.

Scope of work : full‑time position suitable for part‑time.

Responsibilities

• Teaching 5 lecture hours per week (5 LVS).
• Research within the department or institute and pursuing independent theoretical philosophy projects that complement the Institute’s teaching.
• Providing teaching experience and engaging in academic self‑governance, such as serving on committees.
• Assigning at least one‑third of working hours to the associate’s own academic work.

Qualifications

• University degree in a relevant field and a doctorate.
• Outstanding doctoral research upon signing the contract and a strong research profile in theoretical philosophy, demonstrated by publications.
• Current project in theoretical philosophy that meaningfully complements the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Hamburg.
• Willingness to teach beyond specialization and to acquire German language skills if not yet proficient.
