Research Support position (m/f/d)

Department of Comparative Development and Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne is seeking a Research Support position to contribute to our daily laboratory work on mechanisms underlying plant development and diversity (fill-in parental leave for one year).

Responsibilities

• Work in close collaboration with scientists and experienced research technicians.
• Cultivate and characterize developmental traits in plant strains derived from mutagenesis and wild collections as well as transgenic plants.
• Generate new transgenic plants.
• Maintain lab genetic collections, prepare culture media and assist in organizing and daily running of the S1 lab.

Candidate Profile

• Completed professional training as a research technician preferably with first professional experience, or a biology graduate (B.Sc. in plant genetics or an equivalent discipline) with work experience.
• Highly motivated with organized working style and strong teamwork skills.
• Experience in molecular biology (genomic DNA extraction, PCR, cloning) and plant handling/cultivation.
• Excellent documentation skills, computer literacy (Microsoft Office, electronic lab book applications) and fluent English.

Offer

Full-time employment in a friendly and international environment. Payment and benefits are according to the German TVöD and will depend on experience, knowledge and qualifications. Contract duration one year, starting as early as possible, at the latest February 2026.
