RF Design Engineer

We are partnering with a high-growth engineering scale-up at the cutting edge of autonomous systems, multi-robot coordination and secure command-and-control infrastructure for unmanned platforms across air, land and sea. The organisation develops modular hardware and software solutions that enable resilient, secure communication, distributed swarming, and autonomous teaming of robotic assets in complex, GNSS-denied and contested environments.

Role overview

As an RF Engineer , you will play a key role in advancing the company’s next-generation communications and connectivity stack, working on RF front-ends, mesh-capable wireless links and navigation-aided positioning systems that underpin resilient command, control and data exchange between multi-agent robotic platforms.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead RF design, simulation, and integration work on multi-band wireless systems supporting both high-throughput data and low-latency control links across autonomous robots and drones.
• Develop robust, mesh-capable communication layers and radio architectures that support swarming, distributed sensor fusion and real-time team behaviours.
• Integrate anti-jamming, interference-mitigation and secure RF techniques (e.g. adaptive antennas, GPS/GNSS anti-spoofing, CRPA, spread spectrum) to maintain reliable connectivity in contested or denied operating environments.
• Collaborate closely with hardware, embedded software and AI/ autonomy teams to co-design RF hardware, firmware drivers and layered protocols for secure C2 (command and control), telemetry, and onboard networking.
• Conduct RF testing, verification and optimisation in both lab and field settings using VNAs, spectrum analysers, OTA chambers, and over-the-air performance test rigs.

Who we’re looking for

• BEng/MEng or MSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related field with a strong RF/communications emphasis.
• Proven hands-on experience with RF circuit design, PCB-integrated RF front-ends, antennas, and wireless subsystem integration.
• Deep understanding of wireless communication fundamentals (modulation schemes, link budgeting, mesh/peer-to-peer networking, RF MAC/PHY layers).
• Experience with RF performance characterisation, calibration and compliance testing.
• Familiarity with secure wireless technologies (encryption, channel hopping, anti-jamming), SATCOM / LTE integration, and GNSS resilience techniques is highly desirable.
