The Role

Working hand-in-hand with our Team Lead, you will take deep technical ownership of the RIDR app. This means bridging design and engineering to transform Figma prototypes into polished mobile experiences, while simultaneously architecting the Convex backend systems that power our gamified community. You will build product features—from highly performant, cross‑platform UI to robust backend systems and social interactions.

What You’ll Do

• Implement screens and components from Figma designs into Expo / React Native, ensuring flawless operation across iOS and Android.
• Design and implement backend systems in Convex for gamification (challenges, levels, XP), social features (posts, likes, feeds), and spaces.
• Build adaptive layouts and implement system-integrated dark/light theme switching.
• Architect data models, real‑time sync, and privacy-preserving aggregation for GPS heatmap data.
• Manage basic GitHub CI/CD and Expo EAS deployment workflows.

What You Bring

• Strong proficiency in React Native, Expo, and TypeScript.
• Strong backend development skills with Convex (or deep experience with Firebase/Supabase and willingness to adapt).
• Experience building gamification systems or social platform features.
• Database design expertise for real‑time, social applications.
• Methodical testing mindset: you verify on physical devices, and design systems for data integrity, performance, and user privacy.
• Understanding of React Native styling, flexbox, and platform‑specific nuances.

Nice to Have

• Experience with UI component systems (shadCN UI, HeroUI) or animation libraries (React Native Reanimated).
• Understanding of mobile app backend constraints (offline‑first, sync strategies).
• Knowledge of social feed algorithms, content moderation systems, or analytics pipelines.
• Familiarity with location‑based service architectures.
