Role Overview
We are currently seeking a Freelance Risk Engineer to join our team on a long-term contract basis. In this role, you will support both domestic and international projects, providing fire safety and risk engineering expertise for our insurance assessments. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with experience in risk management, fire safety standards, and insurance risk assessment.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment & Engineering: Conduct detailed risk assessments for both domestic and international clients, focusing on fire safety, hazard mitigation, and overall risk evaluation. Support global projects by adapting risk management strategies to local regulations and requirements.
- Fire Safety Analysis & Recommendations: Review and analyze clients' fire safety systems to ensure compliance with international standards (e.g., NFPA, VdS) and local fire safety regulations. Provide recommendations to mitigate risk exposure, enhance safety protocols, and improve insurance terms.
- Insurance Risk Modeling: Collaborate with underwriting teams to assess risks related to fire hazards and develop appropriate insurance pricing models and coverage structures.
- Loss Prevention Consultation: Offer fire safety and risk mitigation consulting to clients, helping them implement effective fire prevention measures and minimize potential losses. This may involve advising on fire detection, suppression systems, and structural design.
- International Projects & Travel: Support international risk assessments and fire safety consultations. This may include occasional travel to client locations abroad for site visits and project evaluation.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed risk reports and assessments for both domestic and international clients. Document recommendations and actions taken, ensuring compliance with both local and international insurance regulations and standards.
- Collaboration with Underwriting and Claims Teams: Work closely with underwriting teams to assess risks and develop insurance policies. Assist claims departments by providing expert opinions on fire-related claims, helping to identify causes and recommending corrective actions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Fire Safety, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of professional experience in risk engineering, with a focus on fire safety, loss prevention, and insurance risk assessment.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international fire safety standards, including NFPA and VdS, and familiarity with local regulations in multiple countries.
- Insurance Experience: Prior experience working within the insurance industry, especially in underwriting, risk engineering, or claims evaluation.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in risk assessment software and tools. Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess complex risks.
- Languages: Fluent in English and German, both spoken and written. Additional language skills are a plus, especially for international project work.
- International Experience: Experience working on international projects or with clients from different countries is an advantage. Willingness to travel for international assignments when required.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in fire safety, risk management, or insurance (e.g., CFEI, CFPS, VdS certifications) are preferred.
