Robotic Simulation Engineer – Body (m/w/d) - Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg

Stellenbeschreibung:

What To Expect

We are seeking a forward-thinking Robotic Simulation Engineer to join our Body-in-White (BiW) Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, simulating, and validating automated robotic manufacturing processes used in vehicle body assembly. You will leverage Siemens Process Simulate (formerly Tecnomatix) to create high-fidelity digital twins of production lines, ensuring optimal robot pathing, cycle time efficiency, collision avoidance, and integration with real-world manufacturing constraints.

This role requires deep expertise in robotic simulation, automation system integration, and manufacturing standards, with a strong focus on innovation, digitalization, and continuous improvement in automotive production.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain digital twins of robotic manufacturing cells using Siemens Process Simulate (Tecnomatix) for BiW processes (e.g., spot welding, arc welding, adhesive dispensing, material handling, and assembly).
  • Simulate and optimize robotic trajectories, cycle times, and tool center point (TCP) paths to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Perform collision detection, reachability analysis, and kinematic validation to ensure robotic systems operate safely and efficiently within constrained shop floor environments.
  • Collaborate with automation, robotics, and production teams to validate simulation results against physical prototypes and pilot lines.
  • Integrate PLC logic, robot programming (e.g., KUKA, ABB, Fanuc), and HMI/SCADA interfaces into simulation environments for end-to-end validation.
  • Lead the development of innovative automation solutions, including collaborative robots (cobots), adaptive grippers, vision‑guided robotics, and AI‑driven path optimization.
  • Conduct virtual commissioning to reduce physical setup time and accelerate production ramp‑up.
  • Support design for automation (DFA) and design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives by identifying bottlenecks and proposing simulation‑driven improvements.
  • Maintain version‑controlled simulation models and ensure alignment with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems (e.g., Teamcenter, ENOVIA).
  • Document simulation workflows, best practices, and lessons learned for team knowledge sharing.
  • Apply manufacturing standards such as:
    • ISO 10218 (Robot Safety)
    • ISO 13849 (Safety of Machinery)
    • ASME B11.20 (Industrial Robot Safety)
    • IEC 61508 / ISO 26262 (Functional Safety – for ADAS/automated systems)

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotic simulation and automation within the automotive or high‑precision manufacturing industry.
  • Expert‑level proficiency in Siemens Process Simulate (Tecnomatix) – including Robot Simulation, Motion Analysis, Collision Detection, and Integration with PLC/Robot Programming.
  • Hands‑on experience with industrial robot controllers (e.g., KUKA KRL, ABB RAPID, Fanuc Karel).
  • Strong understanding of robot kinematics, inverse kinematics, and TCP management.
  • In‑depth knowledge of manufacturing safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
  • Experience with digital twin implementation, virtual commissioning, and factory automation integration.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD data exchange (STEP, IGES, JT) and interoperability between CAD and simulation platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on process optimization and innovation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, production, and supplier teams.

Tools & Systems

  • Simulation Software: Siemens Process Simulate (Tecnomatix), RobotStudio (ABB), KUKA Sim Pro
  • CAD Platforms: CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks, NX
  • PLM Systems: Teamcenter, ENOVIA, Windchill
  • Programming: KRL, RAPID, KUKA Robot Language, Python (for automation)
  • Safety & Compliance: ISO 10218, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 26262 (optional)
