Scientist / Postdoc - Biomechanical Enhancement and its social situatedness

The mission of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine - Brain and Behaviour (INM-7) is to contribute to a more detailed understanding of the organisation of the human brain and its inter‑individual variability in order to better understand its changes in neurological and psychiatric diseases. Machine learning will then be used to develop new approaches to diagnosis and progression assessment at the individual patient level. The tools and results developed in the process will be made available to the scientific community in order to enable broad utilisation of the research results. This will be complemented by work on the ethical, legal and social aspects of the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence (KI) in (clinical) brain research and medicine.

Your Job

  • Collaboration on the BMFTR‑funded joint project ‘ExoEnhance – Biomechanical Enhancement and its Social Situatedness’
  • Conducting scientific work on the integration and networking of engineering, medical, social science and philosophical research results within the joint project, as well as philosophical investigations into the social impact of biomechanical enhancement (exoskeletons, neuroprosthetics)
  • Literature research and evaluation
  • Collaboration in joint coordination and cooperation with internal and external researchers on biomechanical enhancement and related ethical issues
  • Documentation and presentation of research results as well as preparation of relevant publications and lectures in the sub‑project ‘Biomechanical Enhancement and its Social Situatedness’
  • Support in organising project meetings

Your Profile

  • Completed academic university degree (Master) in practical philosophy, preferably with reference to applied ethics or a related subject
  • Foreign language skills, in particular fluency in written and spoken English
  • Experience with national and international research projects
  • Experience of scientific collaboration with researchers from other disciplines
