Senior Acoustic Engineer

Stellenbeschreibung:

TITLE: Senior Acoustic Engineer

TYPE: Direct Hire

LOCATION: Lunenburg, MA

ONSITE/REMOTE/HYBRID: Onsite

START DATE: March/April 2026

We are seeking a Principal Acoustic Engineer to serve as a technical authority in the acoustic evaluation and design of advanced rotating machinery and related structural systems. This role will influence acoustic performance across multiple high-powered product platforms, including steam turbines, large electric motors, integral blower/compressor systems, and other propulsion-related equipment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform comprehensive acoustic evaluations of large rotating systems, including: Structure-borne vibration and noise analysis, Identification of acoustic transmission paths, Airborne noise assessment, Development and implementation of mitigation strategies, and Narrowband and octave-band analysis
  • Utilize advanced analytical and modeling approaches, such as: Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) for high-frequency noise evaluation, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for low-frequency structure-borne and airborne acoustics, Boundary Element Method (BEM) for low-frequency airborne modeling, and Empirical prediction techniques
  • Decompose complex technical issues into practical, innovative solutions that meet performance objectives without introducing unnecessary weight, cost, or program risk.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation and present findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status, technical results, and risk assessments to project leadership and executive management.
  • Interface directly with customers, confidently representing the engineering team in technical discussions, including engagements with U.S. Navy stakeholders.
  • Monitor project milestones and provide accurate estimates for completion of analyses and deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years of experience evaluating acoustic performance of turbomachinery, large rotating equipment (such as motors or generators), or comparable systems.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA).
  • Hands‑on experience conducting acoustic testing and validating models, including sound intensity measurements, modal analysis, and instrumentation‑based data acquisition (accelerometers, microphones, strain gauges).
  • Practical experience interpreting both simulation and experimental data, with the ability to distinguish valid data from anomalies and differentiate forced response, resonance behavior, background noise, and operational acoustic signatures.
  • Experience analyzing acoustic phenomena associated with compressible fluid flow and related upstream components.
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and development of custom analytical tools.
Preferred:
  • Active security clearance.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project preferred) and/or agile management platforms (e.g., Jira).
  • Familiarity with acoustic data acquisition systems and digital signal processing techniques.
  • Experience executing projects for U.S. military customers.
  • Experience with data post‑processing, optimization methodologies, and statistical evaluation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of relevant military acoustic standards, including MIL-STD-740-1, MIL-STD-740-2, and MIL-STD-1474.
  • Experience with CAD platforms such as Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
  • Experience supporting the design and documentation of rotating machinery and manufacturing drawings.
