Senior Backend Developer (d/w/m)

You will join the team responsible for the core POS Acceptance domain, simplifying the complexity of our external payment integrations for the rest of the organization. This role is for a hands‑on engineer and technical anchor. You love coding and solving challenging problems, and you also take responsibility for mentoring the team, shaping architecture, and ensuring technical quality. You will own key components, bring structure to a growing system landscape, and help anchor technical ownership within the team.

Your tasks

• Contribute to architecture and system design in a complex backend landscape, influencing how the system evolves.
• Be hands‑on with coding, solving complex problems while mentoring and supporting the team.
• Evolve existing systems and ensure scalable, maintainable, and robust solutions.
• Make informed decisions in ambiguous or complex situations, balancing short‑term delivery with longer‑term system health.
• Collaborate closely with adjacent teams and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of technical decisions.
• Actively mentor and coach team members, supporting their professional growth.
• Support the team in taking technical direction, helping shape systems and practices without being the sole decision‑maker.

Your experience

• 7+ years of experience in backend engineering, ideally in high‑throughput or regulated systems.
• Passion for coding, with deep knowledge of Java and/or Kotlin (JVM) and frameworks like Spring / Spring Boot.
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and API design.
• Proven experience in architectural decisions and system design at a senior level.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly and align teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS or GCP) and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, monitoring, and system operations (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
• Solid understanding of security concepts (authN/authZ, encryption, secure data handling).
• Strong experience with relational databases, ideally complemented by NoSQL.
• Curiosity for emerging technologies, e.g., AI‑driven development or systems.
• Experience with concurrency and parallelism is a plus.
• Fluent English; German skills are a plus.
