Senior Backend Engineer (m/w/d) – Spring Boot & Cloud-Native

An established and respected company in the IT Services & Consulting sector is expanding its cloud-native engineering team in Nürnberg. We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer who combines technical excellence with architectural thinking and a strong sense of ownership.

Your Impact

You wont just write code. You will actively shape backend architecture for mission-critical enterprise systems and help define engineering standards in a modern, cloud-native environment.

Your responsibilities include:

• Translating structured business requirements into robust, production-grade Spring Boot / Quarkus services

• Co-designing scalable architectures (CQRS, event-driven systems, asynchronous decoupling, BFF patterns)

• Building and operating highly available, distributed backend systems

• Running services in Kubernetes environments with production responsibility

• Implementing GitOps-driven CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux)

• Establishing strong observability practices (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Jaeger)

• Working closely with Architects, Product Owners, QA, and DevOps in an integrated DevOps culture

You will have real influence on architecture decisions — not just implementation tasks.

Your Profile

We are looking for a senior-level engineer with a strong technical backbone and a pragmatic, structured working style.

Must-Haves

• 5+ years of professional Java backend experience

• Several years of Spring Boot in production environments

• Proven experience in high-availability or mission-critical systems

• Deep understanding of distributed systems and non-functional requirements (scalability, resilience, observability, security)

• Hands-on Kubernetes experience in live environments

• Strong knowledge of Hibernate/JPA, REST API design, SQL, Docker, Git, Maven/Gradle

• Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and implementing automated testing (unit & integration)

• German language skills at C1 level (essential for stakeholder communication)

Nice-to-Haves

• GitOps tools (ArgoCD, Flux)

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, Kustomize)

• Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)

• Kafka or similar messaging systems

• Spec-driven or model-driven development approaches

Compensation & Framework

• Base salary: €65,000 – €90,000 gross per year (depending on experience)

• Permanent employment contract

• 30 vacation days (negotiable)
